History of the site :

Paragliding took off in the 1980s, with the Dune du Pilat becoming a prime site. In 1992, the first local club was founded, propelling the Dune du Pilat to the status of a leading destination for free-flight enthusiasts.

La Dune du Pyla has become a major destination for paraglidingattracting visitors from all over the world for first flightsand pilot course and international competitions.

Anecdotes :

Some freeriders have been lucky enough to fly over dolphins swimming in the waters of the Arcachon basin during their flight over the Banc d'Arguin.

A surprise wedding was orchestrated in mid-air for a couple of paragliders on an eventful day. Vows were exchanged in the air, to the applause of friends and spectators on the ground.

When is the best time to fly the Dune du Pilat?

High season and low season: two rooms, two atmospheres!

  • High SeasonFrom early June to 15 September with strict rules and a high affluence. (flight conditions optimal)

How do I get there and park for free?

There are several transport options to get to the Dune du Pilat:

1. Train The TGV to Arcachon just a few kilometres away.

2. Car: If you prefer to drive, you can reach the dune in about 15 minutes from Arcachon or in 50 minutes from Bordeaux. 

Beware that in high season the roads are regularly saturated, so the experience can quickly become incredibly tedious and time-consuming: prefer a fun means of access such as cycling.

3. Car parkBeach Le Petit Nice Free Nb : At night, parking is prohibited and no vehicles are allowed. The police carry out regular checks to remove any vehicle, camper van or converted van that tries to remain parked in the car park overnight.
